Business Development Director - Atlanta, St Louis, Dallas or Los Angeles
The Firm is currently recruiting for a Business Development Director to be resident in our Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas or Los Angeles office. As part of the firm’s Marketing and Business Development (MBD) team, this position is responsible for the administration of the firm’s business development efforts focused on acquisition of new clients and expansion of work for existing clients. This is a new and important role at Dentons, as this position supervises the entire US business development team

Responsibilities

  •  Manage the US business development team and work product, in an integrated and consistent manner with the other groups within the marketing department, including media relations, events and operations, as well as other regions 
•  Supervise and guide Business Development plans and budgets annually; ensure ongoing management through regular reporting and dialogue with key stakeholders 
•  Advise and direct strategic bids (including resourcing, management and best practice), conduct debriefing meetings and advise on follow-up actions 
•  Work in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Client Services and the Chief Client Services Officer to establish best practices with respect to new business generation 
•  Serve as the primary liaison for the US business development activities, working in tandem with the firm’s Global Business Development Director and his/her programs 
•  Develop consistent client-focused business development efforts to serve identified market needs 
•  Oversee a firm wide marketing and experience database to promote the firm’s credentials 
•  Oversee research and analyses of firm performance and market data to research industry and business development trends and profile prospective markets, clients and targets 
•  Build reporting structure for the US deal description database, bid performance stats, email campaign performance, event and sponsorship ROI, etc. 
•  Contribute to the firm's Professional Development team's business development training sessions  
•  Provide coaching on business development skills, methods, and planning 
•  Liaise with Recruiting to create lateral partner onboarding plans and analyze results 
•  In addition to day-to-day management of the BD team, oversee related resourcing, recruitment, training and professional development needs 
•  Ensure compliance with the firm’s business development and communications policy, practice and procedures 
•  Participate in special projects at the request of the Chief Client Strategies Office 
•  Other duties as assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position.


Specific Requirements

Qualifications

 

•  Bachelor’s degree required; graduate-level degree is a plus and a minimum of 10-12 years of experience working within professional services; prefer a large legal national or international firm
•  Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential, coupled with marketing and strategic planning experience
•  Demonstrated management, mentoring and client service experience
•  Excellent interpersonal skills, including professionalism, judgment and discretion
•  Extensive knowledge and expertise in the firm’s expertise, capabilities, structure and client base
•  Must be able to interface effectively with lawyers, build consensus, and be a self-starter with attention to details
•  Coaching, training, marketing and/or business development experience is necessary
•  Polished presentation and written/verbal communications skills
•  Ideal candidate should possess diplomacy, perseverance, as well as a client service attitude and sense of humor
•  Must be competent in all software and related procedures, including understanding of the budget process
•  A flexible schedule to accommodate firm events, various deadlines and partners’ schedules
•  Extensive travel to other firm offices is required
