Communications Specialist (Location can be Chicago or Washington, D.C.)

The Communications Specialist is responsible for coordinating league table and survey submissions; working with the broader Communications group, drafting compelling submissions for various awards and recognitions; maintaining a national editorial calendar for league tables, directories, surveys and awards; advising on recognition and survey strategy; and assisting with other communications activities (internal and external) as needed. The Communications Specialist must maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and Firm matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but may not be limited to, the following. Other duties may be requested and/or assigned.

  • Maintain ownership of the strategy, process and submissions for annual league tables (e.g. Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, etc.), practice league tables (e.g. deal reporting, etc.) and various awards and recognitions.
  • Working with practice leadership, business development professionals and others, to determine the strategic approach to each submission.
  • Drafting and proofing individual, office, national and international submissions for league tables such as Chambers and Legal 500, in consultation with appropriate partners.
  • Maintain library of submissions. Managing league table interviews, including scheduling interviews, compiling preparatory materials in advance of interviews, drafting talking points, etc.
  • Developing and maintaining a national editorial calendar for league tables, directories, surveys and awards.
  • Working with others on the Communications team to develop submissions for individual awards and recognitions, as appropriate.
  • Developing and maintaining a list of references for use, prioritizing references as appropriate.
  • Coordinating updates to league tables and other organizations as relevant developments occur (e.g. lateral acquisitions that affect practice capabilities).

 



Specific Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and a minimum of 3-5 years of marketing experience preferably in a large legal or professional services firm; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have exceptional communication skills with excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading abilities; strong organizational and project management capabilities; and the ability to write winning submissions through effective storytelling and positioning.
  • Attention to detail. Must be able to work in a demanding environment with multiple competing priorities and shifting deadlines. Flexibility is important.
  • Exhibit high degree of initiative with excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and follow-through skills. Analytical and critical-thinking skills are essential.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions within scope of the position’s responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, and outside vendors/contacts.
  • Computer proficient with strong technological skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute files, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
